Announcing:Junior Grade!
for 4,5 and 6 year olds
Schedule:
Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9am to 12:30pm

What is the Junior Grade? Junior grade is a special grade for gifted and precocious children ages 4,5,6  for whom placement in a regular Kindergarten may result in a traumatic or stressful learning experience due to the following risk factors:
     1. the child already reads

      2. the child is emotionally sensitive

3 the child is cognitavely advanced and would not have a social peer group
4 the child would not do well in a large class setting due to overexcitabilities as related to their gifted characteristics.

At Baywood Learning Center Junior Grade students may work at any grade level in accordance with their ability regardless of the number of grade skips involved. Even though they may advance to several grade levels ahead academically, they'll get to stay in their appropriate peer group. By allowing the students to advance at a pace that is comfortable and safe, the student is not put into the stressful situation of feeling as though they need to hide their abilities. this is especially important for gifted girls, who are more suseptable to the social pressure to "fit  in", and frequently start to hide their gifts, tragically, this can result in permanent loss in educational potential.

If you have any questions about the enrollment process or Baywood Learning Center please email Grace Neufeld at:grace@baywoodlearningcwenter.org
Enrollment to Baywood Learning Center is open to any child regardless of race, gender, culture or religion. Children are placed based on their potential to benefit from our unique and specialized program.

We serve grades K-12. Our school is very small with about 20 to 30 students. Therefore, students are carefully selected to include children that share similar interests and to maximize opportunities for positive social interaction.

Baywood Learning Center specializes in serving the educational and emotional needs of gifted students regardless of previous academic performance.
We can accommodate some moderate learning disabilities on a case by case basis.

What Kind of Student Thrives at BLC?
The BLC model is designed for the kind of child who exibits the following traits:

Ability to hyper-focus in areas of interest
Demands indepth educational content
Can be self directed at least some of the time
Values automony
Needs choices and a voice in what they will do
Is advanced above grade level in at least one subject

Our staff is trained to work with these gifted students and understands their intensities, passions, sensitivities and the need for additional transition time.

Students who do not succeed in the BLC program are those needing more structure and who get overwhelmed by choices. If you are not sure how your child might respond to our program you may wish to schedule a day for your child to participate in our program.

It is a biological fact that teens function better later in the day click here for more info on this fact:

teens and sleep

Also teens need 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep every night. Because of their unique biological needs teens stay up later and sleep in later. Our teen program schedule reflects this need and in so doing, provides an opportunity for teens to focus on educational goals during their peak learning time.
