Writer‘s Workshop

"Language Play“: an introduction to Creative Writing

FOR Young children ages 5-9,

Wednesdays: January , 20,27, Feb 3,10 1pm-3pm

For Youth ages 10-17

Fridays January 22th, 22, 29, Feb 5, 12 1pm-3pm

Is your child shutting down to writing? New to writing? Struggling with getting their thoughts out and onto paper? Dyslexic? Have trouble with handwriting?  Getting “writers’ block”? Need a fun way to practice writing skills?

This workshop is here to help keep the writing process fun and attainable for students at almost any level.  For beginners, this workshop will give the child a taste of the written word, while taking the "bite" out of writing. for older youth this class is great for children who may be resisting writing, shutting down to it or who struggle with dyslexia or other learning difference.  Sometimes children have wonderful, creative ideas, but have a hard time getting them out of their head and onto paper, in this workshop we practice fun exercises to help break through writers' blocks. This class will enable children to explore language as simply "playing". By capitalizing on a child's natural sense of verbal language and story, we will go the next step and begin to write through a series of brief, but enjoyable group exercises. These activities will begin by introducing the concept of group trust and collaboration. Our focus will be: when it comes to creativity there is no "wrong", only an effort by all of us to "get out of our own way" enough to have fun. Beginners encouraged to enroll and join in the fun. There are two different sessions, one for older students with or without learning differences and one for younger students just learning to write.

This series of five weeks is a fun workshop to build writinging skills and overcome barriers to writinging.  Fee is $150 for all five sessions.
