Using multi-media and hands on science and art projects we explore what earth was like during the Ice Age,
March 9th, 16th, 23rd, 11 am to 1pm
Cost: $25 per class (includes materials)
In leading this class I combine many of the successful methods I’ve observed employed by our best specialists that work with this population of learners. Using an interdisciplinary style of presenting the topic through a colorful  multi media presentation, the content flows between the rich contextual information these children crave about science, the world, animals and art. They will be learning some Geography, creating a timeline to help frame the time  of the Ice age in the context of world history, biology, sociology, art, human culture with many hands-on activities, and visuals, designed to stimulate the mind and gain a deeper understanding of the world at that time.

My favorite class is the one in which we focus on Ice Age Human civilization, In this class, we learn about the humans during the time of the Ice Age, we look at cave paintings, in  beautiful photographs, we discuss their meaning, talk about how humans use symbolism to express meaning and their culture. Then we go into a darkened hallway which has been lined with brown butcher paper. it is very dark, but we each carry a flashlight and some charcoal and yellow ocher which are similar materials used in the real caves, then we make our own cave paintings! It makes you realize the process is a little more complicated than at first glance, ina cave it is very very dark, so someone must hold the light while the artist applies the colors. or the artist can hold the light in one hand and draw with the other. You can expect some wonderful art coming home out of this. This project is very messy!  Please be sure your learner wears a smock on this day, and/or clothes you do not care about too much. This class is the third one of the series.
